Aussies Love Cricket

Cricket is the passion of all Aussies. It's considered very un-Australian not to love cricket. Playing cricket has been a well-known tradition in Australia from the beginning. Cricket originated in England and was brought over on the first fleet it was considered a status of symbol, an exhibition of good taste. The announcements of cricket tournaments were often published in Aussie newspapers: the pictures of the time depicted the players dressed in white shirts, white breeches and cylinders, elegantly leaning towards the cricket ball.

The Cricket game has been the favored game in most Australian high schools - the most rich and famous schools hold a long history of cricket games. BBC, and other selective schools were famous not only because of the education they provided, but also remembered for their sport games and sport groups. Cricket was a symbol of high standard, of belonging to a certain social group. The sight of boys and girls playing cricket on green lawns gave an Australian citizen that feeling of certainty and they trusted in the strength of the British Empire. There were many controversies in the early days over the body line incident and the rivalry between the Aussies and the English. This quickly spread to the other English colonies and has formed the great competition that exists today, between the New Zealand, South African, Indian, Pakistan cricket teams. Many Aussies wait impatiently all winter long for the cricket season to start at the beginning of summer.

The rules in cricket are not too difficult and can be easily learned: two teams, of eleven players each, play on a grass field, in the center of which is a cricket pitch. The cricket pitch is a long rectangular area of grass. The batter stands at one end in front of the wickets and the bowler throws the ball over arm at the batter and tries to hit the wicket. However, there are different categories of bowlers, relying either on speed or on the rotation of the ball. There are also different codes of behavior, which many players learn from their childhood. There are the one and two day series, the 20/20 and the test matches.

Cricket has maintained its role as the symbol of Aussie tradition - the passion for Cricket is still on the increase and the next generation has come on board. These days, Cricket news is popular in many countries just as much as soccer.
